Rui Valente is responsible for Labor & Employment Law area in Garrigues Portugal.
Among other, his main areas of practice are: restructuring, labor individual and collective negotiation, disciplinary proceedings, labor and social security general advise.
Furthermore, Litigation is a very significant part of his activity, namely in labor and civil areas.
Law degree at the Universidad Católica Portuguesa. The “Ordem dos Advogados” (Portuguese Bar) has granted him the title of “Labour Law Expert” in 2007.

Joined Garrigues in 2006.
Prior to this he has carried out his activity between 1996 and 2006 at Gonçalves Pereira, Castelo Branco & Associados (now Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira).
His profesional experience as a labour & employment lawyer includes assistance in areas such as the following:
- Collective Barganing Agreements;
- Labor & Employment litigation;
- Disciplinary proceedings;
- Regular assistance and legal consultancy in labor and social security matters;
- Reestructuring and collective dismissals;
- Pensions schemes;
- Labor and Social Security Due Diligences.
Academic background
Law degree at the Universidad Católica Portuguesa (Oporto) in 1995.
Two Post-Degrees at the Universidad Católica Portuguesa in European Labor Law (2001/2002) and Labor Law (2004/2005).
Teaching activity
Invited lecturer in the Labour and Social Security Post-graduation Course at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Oporto).
Invited lecturer in the Tax Post-graduation Course at the ISAG – Instituto Superior de Administração e Gestão.

He is member of the Portuguese Bar Association (“Ordem dos Advogados”) since 1996.
