José Ignacio Guerra is a partner in Garrigues’ Tax Department, where he pursues his professional practice in the tax advisory services and tax litigation areas. In the tax advisory services area, he specializes in the real estate sector and the distribution sector. In the tax litigation area, he handles complex litigation before the various administrative bodies and courts of law, at all levels. He has been a partner of the firm since 2000 and over the past 20 years has been in charge of Garrigues’ real estate taxation and tax litigation groups. He holds a Degree in Law and in Economics and Business Studies, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma of Advanced Studies in Public Finance.
Experience
José Ignacio Guerra has pursued his professional career since 1988 at Arthur Andersen and Garrigues. He specializes in tax law, above all in the fields of tax litigation, real estate taxation, and in the distribution sector. He has been the partner in charge of Garrigues’ Tax Litigation Group and Real Estate Taxation Group.
Within the tax litigation group he heads, he frequently acts as an appellant before Spain’s various courts (Supreme Court, National Appellate Court, etc.) against the tax authorities. He also plays an active role in tax regularization processes.
He has participated in tax advisory services for the performance of the most notable real estate deals carried out in Spain over the last twenty-five years regarding investments and divestments in respect of both single assets and asset portfolios. Moreover, he has advised on restructuring and refinancing deals at real estate groups.
He lectures on the Executive Programs at Centro de Estudios Garrigues and Instituto de Empresa and is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences staged by the Firm and by a host of specialist centers.
Academic background
- Degree in Economics and Business Studies from Universidad Complutense (1988) and a Degree in Law from UNED (1989).
- Postgraduate Diploma, Advanced Studies in Public Finance.
